On Fire Electric Wire Plug Receptacle Wall Partition,Electric Short Circuit Failure Resulting In Electricity Wire Burnt

Buster has been a master electrician for over forty years. As a matter of fact, he grew up as the son of one of the best electricians in the State of Texas. “Papa” John Consford was an amazing man.

And now, watch carefully to obtain some of his wisdom which is shared through this video!

San Augustine Hardware | Hardware On The Square | Wiring a Receptacle Properly

Many times, customers come into Hardware on the Square and ask for a receptacle that has the stab lock ports in the back. It is so easy to just plug the wire into the plug and not worry about whether the screws are tight or not.

This is a common mistake. It only takes a few extra seconds to put the wire under the screw and tighten it down. If you use the stab lock feature, it will work for a while. But the connection is not as good as if you put the wire under the screw. There are just two blades that clamp on the wire, and the surface area of the connection is very small. All the electrical current is passing through a small area, and it will create heat. Heating and cooling, over time, will cause the connection to fail.

It would be a big help to me if you would follow us on YouTube and give us a thumbs up on the video.

Here are the easy steps for wiring a receptacle properly:

  • First, leave enough wire to have room to work.
  • Secondly, strip the wire about ¼ inch from the end of the wire.
  • Thirdly, with your pliers make a loop at the end of the wire.
  • Fourthly, put the white wire under the silver screw.
  • Fifthly, put the black wire under the gold screw.
  • Lastly, never use the quick stab, as this could result in a fire hazard.

Following these easy steps will make sure you have a safe connection in the receptacle box.
